The next recording is at least something new.
It’s the next episode of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – K & R Part Two.
Danny gets news. “When we opened her up, we could see right away there was a deep invasion of the trophoblast into the superficial muscle. The maternal surface was irregular, with variable amounts of fragmentation of the cotyledons.” “I don’t know what any of that means.” “Yeah, me neither.” I’m amazed Danny hasn’t punched him yet. Oh hang on. “Is that life-threatening?” “Well, going to the corner for a newspaper’s life-threatening.” “Kid, I will beat you up.” he also fails to mention that Jordan’s daughter has already been delivered and is in the Neonatal ICU while they check her vitals. I might have led with that.
Lucy decides to read the comments on the internet about last night’s show, against the advice of the other writers. Then she reads something so awful she hurls the laptop against a wall. This episode features Aaron Sorkin’s well known incomprehension and utter disdain at people venting opinions on the internet. “I… I told her not to read it.” “Read what?” “The Angry Pajama People. We were surfing the Net for anything about Tom’s brother.”
There’s a flashback to the writers room after the war first starts. Matt is trying to find something for the writers to work on, having been told by Jack not to mention the war, or Bush, or do anything unpatriotic. But he’s drawn to a news story that Karl Rove visited Hollywood producers. “He wants the studios to make films that are more patriotic.”
Danny wants to see the baby, since he’s considering her his daughter, but the nurse tells him he needs an ID bracelet. “I’m not gonna steal the baby.” “Well, that’s what people who steal babies say. They don’t come into a hospital and announce their intention to steal a baby.” He decides to argue with her, rather than doing the sensible thing and asking how he goes about getting an ID bracelet in these circumstances.
They get more news. Jordan’s blood system has developed a problem with not being able to clot, so she’s lost a lot of blood. But the doctor is still reassuring Danny. And he asks the nurse to get Danny a bracelet.
Another flashback to a readthrough. Harriet is doing Holly Hunter auditioning for various films, like Silence of the Lambs. Luke is getting very close to her which is obviously bothering Matt.
Jerry (Michael Stuhlbarg) from the studio’s Standards and Practices department talks to Matt and Danny about the Karl Rove sketch. He doesn’t think it can go on the air. Danny disagrees. “I think you’re taking advantage of the fact that Wes isn’t here ’cause you know he’d have thrown your ass out of the building 20 minutes ago and done whatever sketch he wanted to. I want you to assume that we are Wes and that’s what’s happening now.” Jerry tells them “If for no other reason than the two of you have a chance to be executive producers of this show one day, don’t do things stupidly now.”
Matt talks to Mary about the various attempts to find out what’s happening with Tom’s brother, and he tells her Jordan’s had the baby and Danny is going to see it. She turns serious. “He shouldn’t see the baby. Danny shouldn’t make a connection with the baby.” “Why not?” “You know why not.” “No, I-I don’t. Mary, I swear to God I don’t.” “If something happens with Jordan…” “Jordan’s going to be fine.” “If something happens with Jordan, an engagement ring doesn’t give Danny any rights with the baby.”
Danny does see the baby. “Hi. It’s okay now. I’ve got your back.”
A man appears on the news, a former producer on the show, who claims to know Tom well, and says that he and his brother have been estranged for a few years, which is absolutely not true. Tom’s furious.
Flashback again, and Jerry comes back with a fig leaf. He probably meant it to be an olive branch. Wes Mendell (currently in hospital after a heart attack which is why Matt and Danny are in charge) has seem the Karl Rove sketch and likes it, and thinks it should go on. So they have another argument about whether it should or not. Danny finds a compromise. “You get the ad reps to the dress tomorrow, you tell them nothing. If a lot of them have a problem with the sketch, we’ll cut it.”
Simon goes to talk to a reporter outside to tell him to correct the record on Tom and his brother’s relationship, but he’s soon surrounded by a scrum, and he loses his temper when someone asks if NBS leaked that it was Tom’s brother. “Cause like the rest of this country, you’ve got the attention span of a damn six-year-old. This whole country is nothing but a bunch of idiot teenagers, and if every one of you was mowed down by friendly fire, I’d pop a bottle of Cristal!”
Media Centre Description: Drama series about a late-night comedy sketch show. Jordan’s condition worsens, and Simon lashes out at the press as Tom’s situation drags on.

After this, the recording stops with the start of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The final recording today starts with the end of the previous episode of Heroes from earlier.
There’s the Claire BBC2 ident. There’s a trail for Fanny Hill – one we’ve seen before but this one has a female voiceover rather than a male one which is an interesting change for its move from BBC Four to BBC Two.
Then, our last repeat of the day, Heroes – How to Stop an Exploding Man. Seen a few days ago.
Media Centre Description: Drama series in which people all over the world deal with their newly-discovered superpowers. With Isaac’s horrible predictions all unfolding before them, the Heroes face moments of pain and peril in Kirby Plaza with unflinching bravery.
