The first recording today starts with the end of Richard and Judy, enjoying a lovely meal with Alan Carr.
Then, another episode of The Simpsons – Bart on the Road. This one is another from my tapes.
Media Centre Description: Using a fake driver’s licence, Bart rents a car and embarks on a road trip with his friends.
Recorded from Channel 4 on Friday 1st February 2008 17:58
After this, the recording stops with the start of Hollyoaks.
The next recording is a new episode of Moving Wallpaper. There’s a nice scene at the start, with vaguely western music, as Tom the writer (James Lance) sees Produce Jonathan Pope (Ben Miller) drop milkshake down his front, and laughs, then they keep trying to avoid each other’s gaze.
Carl has bought tickets for The Killers but before he can ask Kelly out, Tom takes her out for lunch.
Tom is after the Killers tickets so he can ask Kelly.
Jonathan has decided the writing team aren’t working hard enough, despite everything moving smoothly on the show and everyone getting everything done. So he makes up a crisis and tells them that actor Hugo Speer, who plays Mark in the show, is quitting.
The writers have to come up with ways to write Mark out of the show. “Ian does die, but Mark takes the rap for it to protect Grace. He’s about to be arrested for manslaughter. Police are on their way. But then he does a runner, takes Jimmy’s bike and roars off like Steve McQueen. Or Gromit.”
Gillian and Mark make an offhand comment to Hugo Speer’s makeup artist. “Anyway, you won’t have to worry about Hugo for much longer, eh?” “What?”
Jonathan is about to tell the writers of his brilliant ruse to get them to work harder when he gets a call from Mel and leaves the meeting.
Hugo has heard the rumours, and has actually quit the show. Mel explains “He thinks the story of him quitting was leaked politically to scupper his pay negotiations.” “Well, he’s not bigger than the show.” “Sadly, my love, at this moment, he is. And he’s resigned. And the show probably won’t survive and we’re all going to be unemployed.”
Gillian is trying to help Carl quit smoking. He thinks he can’t write without a cigarette. She tells him the cigarette is like Dumbo’s magic feather, then later give him his own magic feather.
Nancy is very angry at Jonathan for his cock up. “You know, I’m angry, Jonathan. Obviously. Very, very angry. But I’m also happy. Because if Hugo doesn’t come back, the network are going to have you down those stairs so fast you’ll have to suck a Murray Mint to stop your ears popping.”
Carl has a sneaky fag, then back at his desk, his writing is going better.
Tom is flirting horribly with Kelly. He needs to go on a course.
Jonathan speaks to Hugo Speer, manages to persuade him that it was a mistake “by a member of the production team” so he’s staying. But Hugo wants an apology from the team member, and Jonathan wants Sam to say it was her. “And all I have to do is go to Hugo Speer, say I made a mistake in thinking he’d quit and apologise. That…that’s all he wants.” “Yeah. Well, I mean… Oh, he also wants us to write in a scene where he plays the guitar and sings.” Sam only agrees if Jonathan will give her nephew a job as a runner.
When Sam leaves, Jonathan calls Mel. “Mel, I’ve spoken to Hugo.” “What did he say?” “He said he’ll stay as long as we identify the member of the crew responsible and get them to apologise.” “Apologise?” “That’s right. And then fire them.” “Shit.” “That’s OK. I’ve found a sort of volunteer.”
Tom finds Carl smoking on the set, and threatens to tell Gillian about it unless Carl lets him have the Killers tickets. Everyone in this show is awful.
Sam introduces her nephew to the team. “Everyone, this is Paul. He’s about to start as a runner.” “Oh, welcome aboard, Paul.” “Thanks. I’ve got to see Mr Pope before I do anything else.” “If he tries to touch you, just tell him no means no.”
Paul signs his contract, and Jonathan immediately fires him for gross incompetence.
Gillian spots Carl smoking.
Tom asks where Kelly is, because he’s got the Killers tickets. “No, she’s gone for a drink with poor old Paul. She thought he looked vulnerable and depressed. yet also quite attractive, so she invited him down the pub.” So Tom asks Carl if he wants to go. “Fuck it, why not? Yeah.” “There you go, Dad.” “Thanks, Wanker.”
Mel has bought Jonathan a present, a sheriff’s hat because he was going on about being the sheriff at the start.
Media Centre Description: Jonathan creates a false crisis to give the team a push and tells them that Hugo Speer has quit the show. But his plan backfires when he learns that his leading actor really does want out. The latest episode of Echo Beach follows this programme.

The next recording starts with the end of Later… With Jools Holland, and a bit Radiohead.
There’s a rather delightful Radio 2 promo featuring Terry Wogan that I haven’t seen before.
There’s also a trail for Pulling.
Then it’s an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Nth Degree. Here’s what I said about this when it came up on my tapes. I feel like I should quote one thing from that blog because it made me laugh.
When there, he’s released from the computer, as the beings who were controlling him make themselves known. They only want to meet other species, but they’re so massively advanced from us that they don’t even bother going out of the house, they just bring the species to them. I endorse this behaviour.
Media Centre Description: Sci-fi drama series set aboard the USS Enterprise. The shyest crew member becomes the brightest and most dangerous when an alien probe endows him with super-human intelligence that threatens the fate of the USS Enterprise.

There’s a trail for Wonderland: The Madness of Dancing Daniel.
And a rather grim Holby City trail.
There’s also a six nations trail.
Then the recording stops with the start of the next episode.
The next recording overlaps the last one so we get the end of the previous episode.
Then, another episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation – Qpid. This one is a lot of fun, as I said when I looked at it on the same tape as the previous episode.
I still contend that Worf’s line, when they’re all transported to Sherwood Forest in Robin Hood cosplay by Q is one of the best in the entire show. “Sir, I protest. I am not a merry man!”
Media Centre Description: Sci-fi drama series. Picard is in love but won’t admit it, so Q transforms him into Robin Hood and an old flame into Maid Marian, and sends them both to Sherwood Forest.
