One patient, when House walks into the examining room, pulls out a knife and sticks it into a plug socket, and this being America, he’s able to electrocute himself. When House asks him why he says “Last Saturday, I got in a car crash. A drunk driver came over the line and hit me head on. It was like slow motion. I saw these headlights, And… I saw… The paramedics said I was technically dead for 97 seconds. It was the best 97 seconds of my life.”

The main patient is a man with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a degenerative disease, but he’s been brought in because he lost consciousness in his wheelchair and was almost involved in a traffic accident. The team are split into two teams to diagnose him. Thirteen thinks he picked up a threadworm, and gives him two tablets of Ivermectin (remember Ivermectin?).

The patient gets worse, and knows he’s dying. He asks for his assistance dog to be put on the bed so he can say goodbye.

Very soon after this, his dog also dies. House asks Thirteen “Did you watch him take the pills? The ivermectin. Did you watch the patient put them in his mouth and swallow them?” “I don’t know. I think so.” But she’s not sure. House deduces that the dog grabbed the pills, so the patient was never treated for the threadworm that was the problem all along. And the dog died from eating the pills.

And as if this episode can’t get more depressing, Foreman, who we’ve been seeing in a completely different hospital leading his own team, messes up on a diagnosis, and is fired.
