First today, it’s an episode of Secret Show – The Abyss. This was a favourite programme in our house, and I’m really glad I’ve got some episodes saved. It opens with the Fluffy Bunny Show (as it usually did) before the programme is interrupted by secret agents and replaced with The Secret Show.
Agents Victor and Anita are escorting The Secret Thing when they are attacked.
Their arch enemy Doctor Doctor gets hold of the Secret Thing.
But it turns out that one is a decoy.
Unfortunately, Victor drops the real Secret Thing into the sea.
For reasons of security, the commander’s name is changed daily. “Today you may call me… Oh, Princess Dainty Cakes.”
They have to track the Secret Thing deeper into the Abyss.
The Secret Thing has been caught by a giant squid. Then Doctor Doctor fires Fish Food torpedoes at the UZZ ship to attract the squid.
Victor distracts the squid by going through a cloud of fish food. But he ends up inside the squid.
Anita, who has stayed out of the water because her parents told her she was terribly allergic to seawater, decides to be brave and swims to his rescue. But then she learns exactly why her parents warned her, as she turns into a mermaid.
Anita calls a whale to frighten the squid so it sprays out ink, and also Victor and the secret thing because they were in the ink sac.
When Doctor Doctor arrives to take the Secret Thing from them, Anita calls the whale again.
The UZZ ship has crashed to the bottom, so Anita gets another whale to carry it to the surface and spit it out into the air.
But the ship is out of fuel. Victor saves the day by angling it perfectly to skim along the surface. “I’m a ninth grade stone skimming champion!”
I love this show. It’s got just the right level of absurdity and fun to appeal to the whole family. Here’s someone else’s upload that’s got a bit of continuity, and is missing the opening.
Media Centre Description: Comedy series for 7-12 year olds about two agents in a top-secret organisation, the evil Doctor Doctor, the Impostors and a host of notorious villains intent on world domination. UZZ and THEM race to recover The Secret Thing from the Abyss.

After this there’s a trail for a new series of MI High. I think I’ve got some of these recorded.
Then the recording stops with the start of an episode of Batfink. It’s nice seeing CBBC still showing stuff from 1968.
The next recording is Space 1999 – The Infernal Machine. This is another one I’ve got on a tape.
Media Centre Description: Intergalactic adventures of the space-travelling Moonbase Alpha team. The Alphans encounter a living machine.
Recorded from ITV4 on Friday 28th December 2007 18:58
The recording ends with the start of The Professionals.
The next recording starts with the end of Grumpy Old New Year.
Then there’s a trail for Three Men in Another Boat and a trail for The One and Only…
Then, another episode of Comedy Connections – The Good Life.
Penelope Keith: “It was the most wonderful atmosphere. It was happy, happy, happy.”
I’ve no idea why Simon Pegg is here – this isn’t usually a talking heads show.
Co-Writer Bob Larbey.
John Howard Davies said it was always intended to be a vehicle for Richard Briers.
Richard Briers was interviewed in 2000.
Was everyone in love with Felicity Kendal? I might have been too young for that.
Co-Writer John Esmonde talks about Richard Briers. “He’s the bee’s knees when it comes to knowing what to do with a script. Generous in that if anything is to be cut… Oh, cut my lines. That doesn’t matter. None of the big I am about Richard.”
Peter Bowles was considered for the part of Jerry Leadbetter, but he passed on it to do a play in the West End. And he observes that if he’d played Jerry, he wouldn’t have been able to do To The Manor Born, as he would be going from Penelope Keith’s husband to the man of mystery.
Here’s a two part upload of the episode.
Media Centre Description: Series charting the history of some of our best comedy shows, and finding out what the teams who made them have gone on to do. The Good Life made stars of Richard Briers, Penelope Keith, Felicity Kendall and Paul Eddington, and led to hit sitcoms such as Ever Decreasing Circles, To The Manor Born and Yes, Minister.

After this, there’s a trail for Finding Neverland and for a new series of Jam and Jerusalem.
Then the recording stops with the start of Red Dwarf – Waiting For God.
Here’s the ad breaks from Space 1999.
