The Grandmaster is watching Blue Peter report on global warming, although currently Britain is in the grip of a freeze in the middle of summer.
“Yes, Mr. Flatley, I think I’ve found that frozen pipe you was talking about. I’ll have it fixed in no time sir.”
MI9 believe somebody at the national weather centre is controlling the weather, so Lenny arranges for the school to visit, to give a cover for the team to investigate. Working there is Sonia Frost, a former TV weather presenter whose career stalled when made a Michael Fish-style understatement about high winds.
The head of the centre is Roger Powell – or “Roger Powel” as the graphics department would have it. I think you can see why an apostrophe made me cry the other day.
He was also nominated for a Nobel Prize.
After they invite Sonya to the school to help with Blane and Stewart’s recycling project, Daisy gets Sonya to invite her back to the weather centre, where they believe Roger Powell has built a machine to change the weather. But Powell spots her flashing pencil transmitter.
Rose and Blane rush to the centre and it looks like Powell is doing something to Daisy, but he’s just demonstrating his weather generator.
But actually, the machine is Sonya’s invention, and she’s been talking to SKUL.
She broadcasts a TV signal forecasting that the weather will get much warmer very soon.
Konnie Huq isn’t very convinced by the forecast. She was a really good sport for all these inserts.
But Sonya is betrayed by the Grandmaster, who keeps the temperature dropping lower.
Rose uses the weather machine to freeze some goons.
They have to re-route signals away from the weather control machine to stop the freak weather.
“It’s just wanted to show people. I’m not stupid.” Powell says “Which is why I’m gonna tell people that this was your invention and I hope it makes you famous. For all the right reasons this time.” “Great. I win the Nobel Prize. I can accept it from jail.”
