The first recording today starts with the end of Mister Maker. I don’t know what it is, but I never liked him.

There’s a trail for Something Special.

Then, an episode of Charlie and LolaI Can Dance Like a Dancer which we’ve already looked at.

Media Centre Description: Children’s animation. Join Lola and Charlie, a brother and sister, as they deal with topics that affect their everyday lives. Lola is sure that she is a good dancer, but some dancing is too swirly, ballet is too floaty, while tap dancing is too shuffly and not tappy enough. Just when she thinks she will never be any good, Lola finds a way of combining the different dances and coming up with one big special dance all of her own – Lola dancing.

After this there’s a trail for Space Pirates. Then the recording stops with the start of ToddWorld.

Next it’s over to Channel 4 with the end of Richard and Judy talking to Paul Merton about his Galton and Simpson series.

Then there’s an episode of The SimpsonsThe Springfield Connection. I’ve got this on another tape. Marge becomes a cop.

Media Centre Description: Homer comes across a con artist while out walking in Springfield and thinks he can make a quick profit from him.

Recorded from Channel 4 on Wednesday 23rd January 2008 17:58

The recording stops with the start of Hollyoaks.

The next recording starts with the end of Extreme Dreams with Ben Fogle which ends with one of the participants having a medical emergency, and the programme not being sure they can safely get her off the mountain. Programmes like this make me never want to leave the house.

There’s a trail for Wonderland: The Man Who Eats Badgers and Other Strange Tales from Bodmin Moor.

There’s also a promo for Upstaged.

Then there’s a repeat of TorchwoodKiss Kiss, Bang Bang which we saw last week.

Media Centre Description: Science-fiction and crime drama created by Russell T Davies dealing with the machinations and activities of the fictional Torchwood Institute in Cardiff. The mysterious Captain John Hart is determined to wreak havoc, and needs to find something hidden on Earth. But with Gwen’s life in danger, and cluster bombs scattered across the city, whose side is Jack on?

After this there the Top Gear iPlayer promo and a trail for Freefonix.

Then, on the end of this recording, there’s most of an episode of Torchwood Declassified which is a nice surprise.

Russell T Davies: “My email box went ping one day and there was an email to my agent from James Marsters’ agent saying James Marsters would love to appear in Torchwood.”

Richard Stokes: “We talked to Chris Chibnall who was was writing episode one at the time, and he was writing a story that involved a character that would have conflict with Captain Jack. And so Russell got in touch with Chris and just said write it for James Masters.”

James Marsters: “When I got the script We didn’t really need a lot of discussion with the director or with producers because the script is really self-explanatory.”

Ashley Way: “He’s so enthusiastic and professional, and so up for it. He read the script, he loved the character so every day was just a joy for him and you could tell. I think it’s there in his performance.”

John Barrowman: “James does a brilliant job of it. Particularly the first introduction to him.”

Chris Chibnall: “I think with any character you want them to have a big impact when they arrive. With Captain John we just wanted to make sure that he comes in, he kills, he kisses, he fights, just to make sure that everybody knows that he’s an absolute equal for Jack.”

Tom Lucy talks about staging the big fight in the bar.

This recording cuts off before we see the staging of Captain Jack’s big fall.

BBC Genome: BBC Two England – Wednesday 23rd January 2008 – 19:50

Here’s the episode (not my recording).

The next recording starts with the end of Masterchef.

There’s a trail for The Ten O’Clock News.

Then the Wonderland trail again and a trail for Radio One.

Then, the next episode of TorchwoodSleeper. A couple are attacked in their house by masked men.

But the two men end up dead, and one of them, before he dies, says “The woman… ..in the flat, keep her away from me!”

After a lot of investigation, they discover that the woman, Beth, is part of a sleeper cell of aliens.

They zap her implants and freeze her, but she wakes up and escapes.

Three other sleepers are activated. One of them has a baby, and just leaves it rolling into traffic.

Beth kills her husband.

The other sleepers start attacking.

Another blows herself up in a telephone exchange.

Beth helps them track the last sleeper to an abandoned mine where the government is storing nuclear warheads. He tries to kill Jack, but they disable his force field.

So he blows himself up.

Which leaves Beth, who’s still holding on to her human personality. They’re going to freeze her, but she worries. “And the worst part is, when I turn back, I won’t feel guilty any more. I’ll want to carry out my mission. I won’t even care about Mike. I’ll forget all about him. I don’t wanna die as one of those things, Gwen. I don’t wanna forget about Mike.” “Then don’t. Let’s do this. Who knows what we’ll be able to do in a month? A year?” “Thanks for being so good to me. Remember me the way I am now. Remember…Beth.”

Then she activates her knife arm, and threatens to kill Gwen. “Beth, please! They will kill you. You have proved to be better than that, you helped us to stop the invasion. You can be human. Please!” “Not human enough.” Then she’s about to kill Gwen when the rest of the team shoot her dead. He dying words are “Goodbye, Gwen. Good luck.”

Gwen says “She wanted you to shoot her! She used her last shred of humanity to do this.” “We couldn’t take that chance. She must have known that.” “She did. She just wanted to make it easier for us.” This ending made me cry.

Media Centre Description: Science-fiction and crime drama created by Russell T Davies. When a burglary turns into a slaughter, the team suspect alien involvement. Soon the whole planet is in danger.
